Oh, and this is the Lileks rant I never had the balls to post anywhere, as you can certainly understand why.

Y'know, I can no longer read James Lileks journal and have removed it from my links page. For over a year I was able to overlook his pompous posturing right-wing provincialism and chickenhawk warmongering because when he writes about taking care of his daughter or going to Target, it's delightful reading. But the over concentration juvenile bile in his Chuck Barris post, not to mention his disrespecting Elvis, is over even my limit.

"I hate Chuck Barris. And I don’t spend that emotion on many in the entertainment business - what’s the point? If a Baldwin offend thee, change the channel. I don’t hate Michael Moore, I pity him - he’s going to die in 15 years of a massive coronary on a cold tiled bathroom floor, awash in the blasts of his emptied bowels, his autopsy photos posted to The Smoking Gun's new 3D holographic photo section. People in Hollywood may be idiots; they may be full of sophomoric moralizing, they may trot off to Baghdad and play the puppet for a megalomaniac toddler-torturer, but I can’t hate them. You have to husband that emotion and spend it carefully. Once, twice, maybe three times in your life you’ll come across someone who just plain needs hatin’. Hitler. Bin Laden. Stalin. Barris. Check, check, check, Chuck."

Other than that he's a rage repressed teenage ninny trapped in the body of a 45 or so year old man, the only explanation for this that I can think of is that Lileks just has too much time on his hands. So, it's been a long time coming, but this really was the last straw.

As long as I’m on the subject, you would think that Lileks' clamoring for an invasion of Iraq (as long as he and his family and anyone he knows well don't have to make any sacrifices), juxtaposed with the tender care he takes of his three or so year old daughter might give him pause, if he ever thought about the human cost of an invasion of Iraq, including the lives of all those three year old Iraqi little girls who were foolish enough to have been born in a place where we drop smart bombs and Special Forces. James Lileks is a pretty good representative of the greed, cowardice, and shortsightedness that allows monsters like GWB to rule through fear, because they cannot govern though consent. And the Lileks family isn't going to escape the deluge anymore than I will, I'll just see it coming and know why and he won't. Grrrrrrrr.
