Nineveh was the capital of Assyria, and where's that? Correct! Iraq. The PRCL mailing list, preachers from all over the world who regularly base their Sunday sermon or homily on the Lectionary have been looking, among other things, at this right-now connection to scripture. But I was struck by a news item from a week ago. 'In ten years, bananas could be extinct'. Is there a connection? Probably not, but I was thinking that I'll probably be more inconvenienced by the demise of the banana than yet another conflict in the Middle East. Then I heard about Columbia.
