02/13/2003 Entry: "Reckless Administration May Reap Disastrous Consequences"

"To contemplate war is to think about the most horrible of human experiences. On this February day, as this nation stands at the brink of battle, every American on some level must be contemplating the horrors of war."
Reckless Administration May Reap Disastrous Consequences by US Senator Robert Byrd, Senate Floor Speech - Wednesday, February 12, 2003, Published on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 by CommonDreams.org

How sad. When an 80 year old man with the safest seat in the Senate is the only one who will speak out. Arent there any Profiles in Courage left in American politics?

I really wonder if the country we die in is even going to remotely resemble the one in which we were born.

I don't know what she's doing now, but Barbara Lee is still the only Congressperson to vote against the original Patriot Act right after WTC.

I'm not good at civics, but here goes: If this were a real war and we had a real President, would it be debated in the Senate and then in the House? If so, there might be more opposition in the House.

Senator Byrd is my hero, and, yes, what a pack of cowards we have in the Senate these days.

I can't remember things ever being this bad, but I suppose we'll survive even if it takes a generation or two to recover from this binge. I hope we've learned this lesson so we never have to learn it again.
