04/01/2003 Entry: ""Operation Desert Storm did not accomplish its objective..." ...what?"

"Operation Desert Storm did not accomplish its objective, namely the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, and the U.S. have had to put up with this situation for the last ten years."
U.S. Military Campaign Is on Course, The view of First Deputy Russian Defense Minister Colonel General Igor Puzanov, Radio-1 specially for Rosbalt. Moscow, Translated by Nick Chesters, March 31, 2003

Well, here's another guy with a history problem: Desert Storm was to liberate Kuwait, not overthrow Saddam Hussein. I'm not sure what it would mean if Gulf War I turned out to have been a defeat, but I think it would be a serious shift into even more denial and cognitive dissonance than we have now. And I, for one, can't take much more.
