04/21/2003 Entry: "China pitches in on North Korea talks"

"Washington -- Representatives of the United States, China and North Korea will hold talks in Beijing April 23 to 25 on North Korea's nuclear weapons program, says Richard Boucher, the State Department spokesman. At the April 21 daily State Department briefing, Boucher said the United States intends 'to conduct serious talks on the situation created by North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons.'

"Boucher expressed U.S. appreciation for China's efforts 'to achieve the international community's shared goal of a peaceful and stable Korean peninsula free of nuclear weapons.'"
Talks With North Korea Begin April 23, by Jane Morese, Washington File, April 21, 2003

Yeah, I can imagine China doesn't want nukes in its backyard. Who would? Good thing we've put all that spy plane unpleasantness behind us and can work together like, um, two countries with nuclear weapons or something.

But, ah! Progress maybe? Please?
