05/04/2003 Entry: "Helen Thomas on those missing WMDs"

"WASHINGTON -- Is it important that weapons of mass destruction be found in Iraq now that we have won the war and taken out the Saddam Hussein regime?

"You bet.

"President George W. Bush's credibility is on the line because he sold -- or was it scared? -- the American public about the need to attack Iraq to eliminate a dangerous arsenal of biological and chemical weapons.

"Now the president and his hardline advisers are scrambling to explain why those elusive weapons have not been found."

Go Helen!

"A New York Times-CBS news poll last week showed 57 percent of those who responded said the war in Iraq was worthwhile even if the coalition forces do not find the disputed weapons."
Finding Banned Weapons In Iraq Crucial For Bush - President's Credibility Depends On Finding Weapons Of Mass Destruction,by Helen Thomas, May 1, 2003, TheBostonChannel.com

So, I have to ask myself, why are 57 percent of the above poll okay with the fact that they were lied to, bullied, terrorized by Terror Alerts, and generally played for a fool by bush and company? If there are no WMDs in Iraq because the UN really was doing its job (ahem), then why did the most needlessly powerful military in the history of the world thrash a country that will probably not be much better off under a Shia clerical rule, which I can't imagine can be avoided, can you? Except that Shia Iraq will now get along with Shia Iran.

Excuse me, is it my imagination or did the bushies just burn down the neighbor's house to get rid of a dog that wasn't barking? Or to get a better view of the house on the other side? Or because the bushies are mean and stupid?

Regime change? Yeah, tell it to the Marines.
