06/13/2003 Entry: "Name that Dem!"

"The Administration urged action against an imminent threat. So Congress voted, only weeks before the 2002 election. Some Democrats voted for it thinking there would be an opportunity to refocus on domestic issues. Instead national security and Iraq's so-called imminent threat became the divisive issue in the election. The question became: who was patriotic and who wasn't.

"The Administration capitalized on the fears of Americans. They misrepresented the nature of the Iraqi threat. They misled Congress. They misled the American people. By pushing for a quick vote before the election, they changed the election and manipulated the outcome."
Name that Dem!, scroll down, no permalinks

"... this maneuver by Congressional Republicans comes the very same day that information comes to light that the CIA had internal disagreements over the accuracy of intelligence that led Bush to declare in his State of the Union message this year that Iraq had an active nuclear weapons program. This reinforces the pattern of manipulation by the CIA that led them to advance information that supported the Bush White House's claims on Iraq, while they shelved information that contradicted those claims. This puts America's credibility throughout the world in jeopardy and poses great danger to America's ability to carry out the War on Terrorism.

"This administration should want to find out the truth on any faulty intelligence that led it to make grave national security decisions. Unfortunately, they have instead relied on old habits of hiding and secrecy. Someone must be held accountable for the actions of the intelligence community that are just now coming to light."
Name that Dem!
