"Every administration lies, and while its understandable to want the absolute truth from our elected officials, it's self-defeating to expect it. Politicians are like children's book authors: neither can practice their craft without certain flights of fancy. But some political lies are so egregious, so outlandish, you feel them in your bones. When Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says, "I don't believe anyone that I know in the administration ever said that Iraq had nuclear weapons," it astounds the senses on a cellular level.

The question is, what can be done?"

Kass goes on to investigate why humans lie so much and what this means in the larger context. I suppose what infuriates me so much is the current junta's predeliction for lying so *brazenly*, as Rumsfeld does in the quote. It's not bending the truth, or massaging it, or evading it - it's just denying that reality exists, even when confronted with evidence. Next Donny will be telling us that black is white and dogs are cats the US has a king and not a president...oh wait, he said that already, didn't he? 1984, people, and the Ministry of Information is already rewriting history.
