08/12/2003 Entry: "Warren Ellis gets an LJ"

"I'm the last of the old wave, a late-period cyberpunk writer (LAZARUS CHURCHYARD). It'd be good to see someone ten years younger than me blow things up. But then, William Gibson was forty when he wrote NEUROMANCER. Steve Roberts, one of the creators of MAX HEADROOM, must've been around that age when I met him in '89 or so. He was gleeful to learn that I wrote LAZARUS on a manual typewriter. He'd written MAX HEADROOM on a manual, and, famously, Gibson had written NEUROMANCER on a manual. If you ever get a chance to watch the MAX HEADROOM shows again, check out the computers the characters use. They all have manual-typewriter keyboards."
Warren Ellis LJ, August 12, 2003

The last time I typed on a manual typewriter I had the finger equivalent of shin splints. Ow. And the greatest manual typewriter film of the last 20 years was Naked Lunch, of course.

Wonder why he choose Live Journal for this project. Hm. Well, like Julia and RozK, it makes it a little easier for me to follow him on my "Friends" list. I sort of loathe LJ; it reminds me too much of fourth grade, but occasionally it is entertaining.
