"Some of the savviest politicians in the Los Angeles delegation to the Legislature attended and outlined a history of the VLF. Their point was that allowing the VLF to go back up to prior levels was the only choice the state had as the Republican minority in the Legislature steadfastly refuses to go along with tax increases, which can't be passed in California without a two-thirds majority. "'One of the first things the public sector wants is police and fire protection,'" said state Sen. Richard Alarcon. 'This VLF tax is exactly that kind of notion; it dedicates a specific source of revenue for police and fire services. It's a disingenuous message that somehow Gray Davis created this. He wasn't even in the Legislature at the time.'" Why would anyone even want to be Governor of this state? I mean, Gray Davis has spent his whole career in politics and even he has problems with it. What makes anyone think a spoiled actor is going to have a chance in hell of managing our messed up legislature and budget? No on the Recall. Don't call a ballet dancer to put out an oil fire.
