12/31/2003 Entry: "Bleeding Working California Families aka Cretins For Schwarzenegger"

"One furlough day down, one to go.

"Between 600 and 700 employees took the mandatory furlough day Friday an unpaid day off initiated by the county (Tuolumne County [ed]) to make up for $3.8 million it will lose in the coming year as a result of the repeal of higher vehicle license fees by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"The next furlough day will come Friday, Jan. 16."

*snip*

"Other county offices that closed included libraries, youth centers and administrative offices at the hospital, parole offices and the sheriff's department. County officials said that, combined with the furlough days, the closures could save as much as $150,000."
Workers take furlough day, face another, by Erin Mayes, Union Democrat (December 31, 2003

Geeze, hope they're not planning on closing the library and youth centers after July 1 when it will be too expensive to to go to the parks.

I don't know about your family, but most of the county workers I know can't afford unpaid days off. Thanks, Ahnold.

But since they are saving so much by not having to pay the vehicle tax (yet), I suppose they can afford it. (Yeah, right.)
