'I think we're at risk with our democracy,' he said. 'I think we're dealing with the most closed, imperialistic, nastiest administration in living memory. They even put Richard Nixon to shame.' "In other words, the general gets it: he understands that America is facing what Kevin Phillips, in his remarkable new book, American Dynasty, calls a 'Machiavellian moment.' Among other things, this tells us that General Clark and Howard Dean, whatever they may say in the heat of the nomination fight, are on the same side of the great Democratic divide." ![]() ![]()
Replies: 1 Comment Ginger, Although I would have preferred Howard Dean as the Dumbocrat candidate, since he would have been the most easy to defeat, I will certainly settle for the goofy general. Unfortunately, that is not to be either since he will implode as quickly or nearly as quickly as did Dean or better put, as quirkily. They are both pretty screwed up characters and those who back either are a bit screwed up themselves. You are certainly a very obvious example of that. Obvious at least to any sane person who reads your rantings. I do drop in on ocassion to check on the latest rant and it is a bit amusing. But, do your best for Clark, I am cheering for you and him in the same manner in which the unions in Michigan voted for John McCain in 2000. That would have been a shocker for John if he had won the nomination and then see his supporters in the press switch in the blink of an eye to Gore. That wasn't to be nor will we get to see the general go beyond late March. I hope that I am wrong so do your best for Wes. On this, I am on your side. Posted by Don Melquist @ 01/24/2004 01:23 AM PST
