02/26/2004 Entry: "Even More TV theory from fans"

"Consider the fact that a contributing factor toward the cancellation of the quirky, wonderfully original Jake 2.0 is that, as Jake producer David Greenwalt said, when a rerun of America's Next Top Model gets better ratings in the same timeslot and costs only 10% of what Jake costs to make... the sci-fi show is going to get shown the door.

"There's a very real reason why reality shows are such ratings successes - they successfully engage and entertain a great many people. I enjoy some reality series as much as the next person; most of us watch at least one. But that can't stop me from recognizing that while Star Trek: Enterprise's ratings were improving this season, the fact that they sharply plummeted when American Idol 3 premiered (which instantly became the #1 show in America - third season in a row) means that AI3 is a direct reason why Enterprise is being moved to Fridays after February sweeps, and you know what that means: imminent cancellation. This is the kind of iconic battle being fought here: a reality show is the death knell for the first Star Trek series to NOT make it to seven seasons since 1969."

They can never say Star Trek fans aren't smart.
