09/26/2004 Entry: "WAR in LJ"

"So back to the Live Journal debate. A number of journalers/bloggers are cutting ties with friends who claim to embrace queerness while supporting the Bush/Cheney ticket. I am among the tie-cutters. As far as I'm concerned, anyone purportedly gay or gay-friendly who simultaneously embraces Dubya's homophobia is suffering from some serious synaptic misfiring. I want to stay out of shrapnel range. Other Live Journalers are more magnanimous, pointing out that there's a difference between being Republican and being a Bushie. One ex-GOP Live Journaler, San Franciscan Azalais, argues that now is the time for all good Republicans to come to the defense of their party -- not to protect it from the Eeevol Democrats, but to save it from itself."
STUFF A BALLOT (YOU KNOW WHERE), by Neva Chonin, Sunday, September 26, 2004, San Francisco Chronicle

...save it from itself. ???

The only way to save the Republican Party would be to make it tax-tolerant, freedom-loving, worker/minority/women/gay/public education-friendly, deficit/war/poverty-hating, and to make it realize that effective, not small, goverment is the answer. In short, to save the Republican Party, it would have to morph into the moderate wing of the Democrat Party. And when that happens, somebody send me a note on a flying piggy, okay? TIA!

The Live Journal Wars. Who knew?
