He had mud on his boots, mud on his overalls and a weathered, suburned face. He said he'd just gotten off his tractor in his fields, jumped in his car and drove to downtown. "He presented a check for a small amount, $20 or $25, and explained that he'd fought in World War II for the freedom for people to do what they want. "The person working the front desk asked the man if he wanted to come in and view the Mapplethorpe exhibit, and he said no. I just want to support my right to see it, he said, then turned and left." A blast from the past in Ohio. Because the past is never over, it's not even in the past.
