03/07/2005 Entry: "Wal-Mart and the Safety Net"

"ALABAMA: The Montgomery Advertiser found in February 2005 that families of Wal-Mart workers are the top dependents on Medicaid. 3,864 children of Wal-Mart employees depend on Medicaid for health insurance. The next highest company, McDonald's, has 1,615 employee's children on the program."
Taxpayers Pay for Wal-Mart's "Low Road", Facing South, March 5, 2005

Similar stories for Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and West by God Virginia. These states, and California, too, should sent Wal-Mart and McDonalds and any other company blantantly ripping off their employees and their State a bill for this because this is really really really stupid, if not evil and wicked.

Grrrrrr.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. (And the Facing South blog. Great stuff!) I keep saying, you can't blame people for shopping at WalMart, but why do those same people vote for politicians who cut health care spending? You said it. Grrrrr.

(I linked to this over at my site, btw.)
