04/28/2005 Entry: "The Book Meme Thingy"

The Book Meme Thingy: Jan Adams sent me this and, although I hate these things and beg you all to please not send me anymore, I'm superstitious, so if this kind of thing bores you, here's some Star Trek women. Otherwise click on [Link].

1. You’re stuck inside Fahrenheit 451. Which book do you want to be?

I want to be the "Karma Sutra" because if I have to be stuck in any Bradbury book other than Something Wicked This Way Comes, I want to get laid a lot.

2. Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?

Mr. Dark in "Something Wicked This Way Comes," I liiiike those tattooed immortal bad boys. I think I invented Goth in the mid-70s but it never quite caught on. I also wanted to tattoo my entire body, like Rod Steiger in (also Bradbury) "The Illustrated Man" movie, but my dad said I should wait until I finished growing. By which time I was busy doing other things.

3. The last book you bought is?

Dori Stories: The Complete Dori Seda

I'm still waiting for Jared to send it to me.

4. What are you currently reading?

Gunfighter Nation
"Seven Soldiers" from DC Comics
"Great Lakes Avengers" from Marvel
Only the Ring Finger Knows. I'm more, like, obsessing on this manga, and, no, I have no idea why.
Harper's, The Science News, Poetry, blogs, too many fucking blogs, email, etc.

5. Five books you would take to a deserted island?

Something Wicked This Way Comes
"The Mahabharata" but has to have the Sanskrit on the facing page
"The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire," Vols 1 through 6
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Shankara's Crest-Jewel of Discrimination (Viveka-Chudamani)

6. Who are you going to pass this (questionnaire) to and why?

Lene T because she's the only one who will readily forgive me. Lene, you're up.

And for more of this kind of thing, here's my 21 Favorite Books thingy from 2003.

Oh, and by the way, J LHLS has more books and comics than we can review at the moment, so if anyone is interested in doing a little reviewing for us -- only pays in books and editorial goodwill -- please drop me a line and I'll let you in on what we got.
