"Now, is this all a good thing? Is it pretty ok that the books being Googleified have a dubious lifespan? Well, no; I'm as fond of a good 60# paper with nice hot type in a Smyth-sewn binding as the next guy. But that model is not going to cover all formats forever in the future, any more than we're still using vellum, illuminations, and wall-chains to prevent book theft. Bell appears to think that reading electronically is not common now and will never be common; this suggests he hasn't met any young Japanese recently (see blogpost on NTT DoCoMo), or watched a college student wield his/her cell phone as though it were a Jedi lightsaber."
