06/30/2005 Entry: "Powells books annoys me (but then they made me happy)"

Update 080105: Yay! I can go back to Powell's links! Yay!

"Witness democracy in action. We have heard your voices and taken your comments and suggestions into serious consideration. When last you heard from us, we told you about our need to add a check processing fee and mandatory quarterly payouts to our program. With your help, we have developed a better way to do things. So, no check fee! No quarterly mandatory payouts!

"Going forward, our payment policy will look like this:

"Commission payments in the form of Powells.com credit or a check -- your choice! Just log into your partner account, visit "Your Partner Info," and make your choice from the drop-down box. Powells.com credit will be the default selection unless you choose otherwise.

"If you select check, we will still ask that you reach a minimum of $25 in commission before we send you a check. If you don't reach $25 during a given quarter, we'll roll your commission over into the next quarter until you do reach $25. We will still mail checks (where the commission meets the required minimum of $25.00) approximately 30 days after the close of each business quarter. Before we cut your check, you will always have the option of redeeming your commission as Powells.com credit -- just log into your account, visit the "Payments" section and click on the "Pay Me!" button."

end of update

"Beginning in July, at the start of Q3 2005, every Partner earning more than $1 in commission during a given business quarter will now receive payment at the end of that quarter. In addition, you will have the option to receive your commission in the form of Powells.com virtual credit or check. When you log into your Partner account (https://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/partners/login), and visit the 'Your Partner Info' section, you will now find a drop-down menu that allows you to select your preferred payment method, which you free to change at any time. Virtual credit will be the default payment method going forward, unless you select otherwise, and may be used for the purchase of anything on Powells.com.

"If you are to receive payment in virtual credit, Powell's will send you an email at the end of each quarter detailing the amount of credit you earned and how to use it. In order to receive payment via check, we will still ask that you meet a $25 commission minimum during each quarter and we will deduct an $8 processing fee for each check that we send. Commissions will no longer accrue from quarter to quarter, so partners who don't reach the $25 minimum will receive their payment in virtual credit (no matter the payment method chosen). If you earn less than $1 during a quarter, your account will be cleared and the balance returned to $0.

"Please review the newly revised Official Partner Agreement, which is always available for your perusal here: http://www.powells.com/partners/agree.html."

Well, I was using the Powells Partner Program because, according to BuyBlue.org, they gave all their political contributions to the Dems. But I use the Partner money to offset the cost of running J LHLS, which is not entriely for my own amusement, so this is a very big slap in the face.

I don't know if I'll start coding Amazon links again, but Powells has definitely lost my business.
