"America is simultaneously the most professedly Christian of the developed nations and the least Christian in its behavior," writes Bill McKibben. "That paradox ... illuminates the hollow at the core of our boastful, careening culture." Sigh.
Replies: 1 Comment I'll be careful what I write so as to not get burned at the stake, but in my experience with Christians and other monotheistic worshipers, the believer only follows a very shallow interpretation of the rules. Christians, for example, are supposed to give away their wealth to follow a spiritual path. It seems to me that the loudest and proudest Christians are the ones who are most likely to be going to hell, if their god pays attention. I lived in Texas for many years, so the Bible belt types were constantly hounding me: I speak only from experience, and not from some deep understanding of their religion. I also don't mean to offend anyone. Seth Posted by Seth Anderson @ 10/04/2005 04:11 PM PST
