The Hackenblog has moved to http://hackenblog.hackenbush.org/ or www.hackenblog.com.Please update your links, thank you.[Previous entry: "Christmas is early this year (the coffee post)"] [Main Index] [Next entry: "Fablog?"] 10/18/2005 Entry: "Military justice, freedom of the press, and our messed up civil society" "Likewise, when New York Times reporters Jeff Gerth and James Risen spread (to put it most charitably) inaccurate information about nuclear research scientist Wen Ho Lee (resulting in Lee's being incarcerated in chains in solitary confinement without access to legal counsel for nine months), their disinclination to identify the parties who fed them this line (currently the subject of a suit lodged by Mr. Lee) is by no means a blow for a free and independent press." "...by no means a blow for a free and independent press." Or a civil and decent society. Why is the Military allowed to do this? Is our Military making anyone else nervous? And on undisclosed sources, fine, provided the reporter isn't an accomplice to a crime, a miscarriage of justice, a fucking horrifying illegal war, or any other horror where the evildoers (possibly those same undisclosed sources) must be punished. Has it always been this easy to punk the press? Geeze, journalism school must make you stupid. I'm really starting to dislike my country and the times I live in. It WAS better when Clinton was President, blow-jobs, welfare reform, Hillary's hair, et al. It was just better. Sigh. Posted by Ginger Mayerson
