10/23/2005 Entry: "Prop 13: the third rail of CA politics"

"When was it decided not to dredge up from the past into our conscious awareness the legacy and consequences of Prop. 13? I'm not sure who can be blamed for this, whether it be the media or ourselves, but I regret we collectively are clueless about the legacy of Prop. 13."
CA: Prop. 13, learned helplessness, and the power grab by corporate interests, An Old Soul, October 21, 2005

Saying what I'm afraid to even bring up in polite coverstation anymore. Last time I did, I was accused of wanting to see seniors being thrown out of their homes by the tax collector. Perish the thought. But it has become impossible to have a rational discussion of what Prop 13 is doing to CA. I'm glad someone who knows what she's talking about and can write well about it is blogging on it.

You go for it. Prop. 13 was the beginning of Californians' breaking government in the state; we may be blue as can be, but we have made government here completely disfunctional.
