12/31/2005 Entry: "Younger men"

"Men today, no matter how old they are, are tired and seeking comfort (iyashi), according to Mayumi Futamatsu, a writer who also provides marriage and sex counseling for couples on the Internet at wwwsuzune.net/contents.

"'You see headlines like--how to get hold of an iyashi-kei woman at matchmaking parties--in men's magazines,' Futamatsu said. 'Younger men feel at ease when they're with older women. I'm sure the number of these couples will increase in the future.'

While certain men want to be taken care of, the women who enter into these relationships are full of life. All the women interviewed were both confident and professionally successful.

"'In many cases, younger men have lower salaries than women in the beginning. The women must keep their jobs,' Kaori Haishi said. 'But over time, they will catch up and eventually pass you. How they turn out (the husbands or lovers) really depends on how good you are at raising them.'"
Older women set sights on young hunks, by Ayako Karino, Asahi.com, December 24, 2005 (via SuperFrankenstein)

Okay, that last sentence is way creepy, but the rest of the article is, um, interesting. Younger men? Hey, why not? According to this 2000 Census chart (pdf, sorry), if I'm reading it right, there are 105 men for every 100 women under 20; 98/100 for ages 20-44; and 95/100 for ages 45-54. This means, in the most brutal logic, that younger men are competing harder, with each other and with older men (the cads), for women the same age or younger. Some of those young guys might wise up to what Benjamin Franklin had to say on older women. Maybe not. Oh and nowadays the gratitude thing is a two-way street, Ben, okay?
