01/30/2006 Entry: "My email to Senator Inouye"

Dear Senator Inouye,

I'm writing to ask you to support the filibuster on Judge Alito's appointment to the Supreme Court. Due to his view of the lack of limits of presidential power, I really don't want him on the Supreme Court. I feel that limitless power leads to limitless abuse.

I remember you from Iran/Contra and I have always admired you for what you did in those proceedings. I feel that many of the problems the US is experiences come from the abuses of presidential power during the Reagan administration.

I understand that you were in an interment camp prior to joining the Army during WWII, where you lost your arm and were decorated for valor. As much as I admire FDR in other areas, I feel that was an extreme and needlessly cruel abuse of presidential power.

Please support the filibuster for all our sakes. This country needs to go forward for a change.

Thank you,

Ginger Mayerson
Democrat since birth

Misc. notes:

I also used 888-818-6641 (ask for your Senator by name) and got right through to call Senator Inouye's office, but I didn't feel I expressed myself very well. The woman who answered the phone was polite, but sounded stressed.

A speech I found on the web honoring Senator Inouye and Senator Akaka in 2002.
