"Some of the staff of the university have come back to work including the custodians, who are mostly from the southern suburbs and many have lost everything. Coming back from lunch I ran into some of the guys who used to work in the architecture building when I first got here. I was so glad to see them and hear that they are all okay. "Beirut today seemed oddly its former self. My cab driver was complaining about the traffic which seems to have come back from nowhere. Shops are open again. People are selling things off of their cars and from the back of trucks, from vegetables to bolts of cloth. But then you see people squatting in abandoned buildings, or sleeping in a park; you hear jets flying overhead and are jolted back to reality.... " They're American Planes. Made in America, by Daniel Drennan, Inquisitor, July 27, 2006 Daily entries from Beirut, except when there wasn't any power. I'm sorry I didn't blog this before. I wish he'd come back to the U.S. Whatever respect I had for Israel is now gone. Bombing civilians is not self-defense.

Y'know, I can either keep track of this end of the DC Universe or I can stay fairly up on world events*, but I can't do both. No wonder fanboys live in their heads and their mother's basements. Gah. *Even if I'm not blogging about them much.

Calitics round-up for California voters: No on Prop 90. Makes eminent domain, among other messed up California property rights stuff, even worse. Quote of the month: "I was a Republican, until they went crazy". Revision of 3 Strikes favored by Large Majority of Californians. Yeah, me, too, if the State can ever free itself of the prison guard union, the prison corporations' money and those who believe that sinners, not matter how mild, must be PUNISHED PUNISHED and did I mention PUNISHED? Especially if they're a shade darker than a cafe au lait. All that might take an even larger majority and Jesus gently reminding certain voters that we are our brother's keeper. And, if that doens't do it, bitch slap some sense into them. Will this happen? Well, who knows? It's California. Anything could happen.
