"One puzzling note: what's up with India? It's the only country where 'don't know' outperformed the other two positions. How is that even possible? My only theory is that the BBC guy there stammered a lot. Weird."

Bob, you and I would have to know a lot more about Indian history and religion to understand that answer.
I'm more concerned with what's up with the United States.

"The GOP challenger (Tan D. Nguyen) to U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez was urged to withdraw Thursday by the head of the Orange County Republican Party, who said he had evidence the candidate was involved in sending a letter warning Latino immigrants they could go to jail or be deported if they vote next month.
"Scott Baugh said he believes the candidate, Tan D. Nguyen, personally urged printers to expedite the delivery of the flyer. He said the Orange County party will no longer support Nguyen's candidacy.

Huh. Dirty tricks from an OC Republican...
"Sanchez, the only Democrat to represent Orange County in Congress, is expected to win re-election. Her campaign declined to comment on the letter.
"She is no stranger to the issue of immigrants and voting. Her first election was challenged by then-Rep. Bob Dornan, who said the election was tainted because of noncitizen voting.
"After a 13-month investigation, the House dismissed Dornan's claim, although GOP leaders said they found evidence of noncitizen voting.
"Penalties for sending the mailer could be stiff. In addition to violating federal laws such as the Voting Rights Act, the state has enacted laws aimed at such tactics based on a widely publicized instance in Orange County in the late 1980s. The Republican Party hired uniformed security guards to stand outside polling stations; Democrats protested those actions, which included informing voters that noncitizens were ineligible to vote."

I think I've finally figured out what's always bothered me about the For Better or For Worse comic strip. The women are all slaves to the people around them. Or is that just what passes for "normal" family life? Or is Lynn Johnson just really sick and twisted and I've only just noticed?
